Australia Food and Drug Administration AstraZeneca Corona 19 Vaccine Approval

The Australian Food and Drug Administration (TGA) has approved a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine developed by multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

According to the Australian Daily Sydney Morning Herald on the 16th, the TGA announced in a press release that it would approve the AstraZeneca vaccine for all adults over the age of 18.

This is the second time after the Pfizer vaccine that the corona vaccine has been approved in Australia.

TGA Commissioner John Scurrit also recommended vaccination for older people, saying, “A close analysis of the AstraZeneca vaccine found no evidence to suspect that it was not effective enough for the elderly.”

TGA recommends two doses at 12-week intervals, but in case it is unavoidable, a minimum of 4 weeks is recommended.

“The AstraZeneca vaccine meets the testing standards for safety, quality and efficacy,” said Federal Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “It will be available free to Australians.”

Prime Minister Morrison said, “The TGA effectively screened and approved at the right time, so Australia has two safe and effective vaccines against the (corona) virus.”

The first supply of AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to be imported at 3.8 million units early next month.

Federal Health Secretary Greg Hunt predicts that “everyone who wants a vaccine will be able to complete the first dose by October this year.”

The Pfizer vaccine, which was approved by TGA last month, began vaccination on the 15th, mainly for quarantine staff and nursing home residents.
