Australia: – Corona panic: – Everyone wants to get infected

Several states in Australia have been subject to strict infection control restrictions for several weeks. Several of the states are now in the process of reopening, but the health authorities in the state of Queensland are issuing a frightening warning that everyone “everyone will be infected with covid” when the state now opens the branches again. It writes the medium News.

Chief health officer Jeannette Young announced that Queensland will face a major challenge, but that the effect can be minimized by increasing the vaccination rate.

“We will all be infected with corona, but if you get vaccinated, it is highly unlikely that you will get sick,” said Young.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath repeated Young’s words, saying that vaccination is “the only way out of this” for Queensland.

– The virus will come to every single person in our city. The question is, are you going to be protected? Sa D’Ath.

Australia tried for a long time to keep the country completely free of covid-19. But after the delta variant gained a foothold, the strategy has focused more on getting as many people vaccinated as possible.

Drops hotel quarantine

Australia has also long had very strict entry rules in the country. For 19 months, the borders of the country have been strict to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. From next month, Sydney and the state of New South Wales will lift the requirement for hotel quarantine for everyone entering the country.

With the current rules, everyone traveling into Australia must have a good reason to get a permit, and must also pay thousands of dollars for a 14-day stay, isolated in a room at a quarantine hotel.

New South Wales Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet says that from 1 November, all those who have been fully vaccinated will have to be tested before boarding the plane, but on arrival in Sydney they will no longer have to be quarantined.

Opens faster

Thus, it is likely that Australia will open up faster than planned. The original plan was that the borders would be opened gradually, and that only Australians and people with permanent residence would be allowed in in the first place. They would have to be quarantined at home.

But the opening does not apply to all states. Among other things, Western Australia with Perth will continue to keep its borders closed, and it is unclear whether people who land in Sydney will be able to travel on to other states that have not reopened.

Sydney has been closed for more than 100 days and only lifted the closure on Monday so that the 73 percent who are now fully vaccinated can go to restaurants, hairdressers and shopping.

The capital, Canberra, lifted its ban on Friday after 99 percent of all 12-year-olds were vaccinated with at least one dose, and 76 percent were fully vaccinated.
