On Monday, Australian police moved into an isolated house in Wieambilla, four hours north of Brisbane, Australia.
Police officers Matthew Arnold (29), Rachel McCrow (26), Keely Brough (28) and Randall Kirk (28) were asked to investigate the property in connection with a missing persons case.
But what was supposed to be an ordinary mission immediately became much more dramatic and the next few hours would be hell for the new officers.
The missing person they were looking for, his brother and his brother’s wife lay ready to attack Arnold and McCrow who got there first, writes Sky News.
Heavily armed and wearing camouflage clothing, the brothers attacked the officers as soon as they set foot on the property.
Arnold and McCrow quickly went ashore and lay down.
Australian media writes that the two brothers are said to have passed on from Arnold and McCrow. The latter is said to have begged for his life, but to no avail. The brothers are said to have executed them at point blank range.
– I can not believe it
A neighbor who tried to help was also shot and killed by the brothers.
Police Officer Randall Kirk was shot in the shooting and was subsequently taken to hospital. Keely Brough managed to escape and hid in the grass near the property. The attackers tried to set fire to the grass to force Brough out of hiding, but she managed to stay hidden.
Six hours after the four policemen arrived at the scene, the police were able to confirm that they had killed the two brothers Nathanial and Gareth Train, as well as the latter’s wife.
Both Kirk and Brough survived the attack.
Police Chief Katarina Carroll calls it a miracle.
– Significant weapons were involved, and the fact that two made it out alive is a miracle. I can’t believe they survived, Carroll said at a news conference on Tuesday.
– Cruel tragedy
The killings are rocking Australia and the president of the Queensland Police Union, Ian Leavers, called the attack on the officers “pure execution”.
– They were executed by these ruthless and ruthless killers, who showed no respect or feelings for anyone, he said according to 9 News.
Landmarks, police stations and government buildings across Queensland flew flags at half-mast on Tuesday, and some were even lit up in the colors blue and white in honor of fallen police officers.
State Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk sent her condolences to relatives on Tuesday morning.
– This is a terrible tragedy. It was a ruthless and brutal act. “Sometimes we take the police for granted and forget the risks they take every single day of their lives,” Palaszczuk said.
