Asked if there was any punishment for China for its refusal to condemn the ongoing Russian offensive, Morrison told reporters that Australia would join allies in sanctioning the country.
“We will move in line with our partners and allies on this matter, and the United States has made some very clear statements about this and we support those statements,” he said. Russia TodayThursday (17/3/2022).
He then called on the whole world to put an end to Russia’s horrific violence and aggression in Ukraine.
Morrison went on to argue that Beijing should be very transparent about its relationship with Moscow, including when it comes to providing them with an economic lifeline during this global crisis and what potential, if any, support has been discussed for military support for Russia, adding the final decision would be an abomination.
The Australian leader’s comments follow similar statements from Washington, which has also warned of “significant consequences” for any military or economic aid to Moscow.
“We will not allow that to continue and allow there to be a lifeline to Russia from these economic sanctions from any country, anywhere in the world,” US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said last Sunday, ahead of a meeting with Chinese diplomats. Yang Jiechi in Rome.
