Two duels between French and Australian players were scheduled for Wednesday in Miami on behalf of the 1st round. In both matches, victory went to the representative of Australia. Nick Kyrgios eliminated Adrian Mannarino (7-6, 6-3), Thanasi Kokkinakis ejected Richard Gasquet (6-4, 6-2). The two Habs had already stopped at Indian Wells.
France: 0, Australia: 2. The match between the two countries, which had been reserved for the first round in Miami in the draw for the Floridian Masters 1000, turned clearly in favor of the Australians on Wednesday. Whether it’s Adrian Mannarino facing Nick Kyrgios or one of our other 30-somethings Richard Gasquet, opposed to Thanasi Kokkinakis, the two drank heavily (7-6, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-2) and will therefore not see the second round of the tournament any more than Benoît Paire and Gilles Simon, also ejected from the start. Faced with the two friends, Mannarino and Gasquet, already out in the first round at Indian Wells, did not weigh heavily. With the exception of the first set of the first against the recent quarter-finalist in Indian Wells, the two Frenchmen never offered any real resistance to their respective opponents.
Mannarino and Gasquet a tone below
The Francilien lost 7-6, 6-3 against the 102nd in the world. The Biterrois was beaten even more dryly (6-4, 6-2), against the 97th in the standings, yet from qualifying. Either way, the games were slow to get going, but once the tone was set, Kyrgios, like Kokkinakis, left only crumbs for our two representatives. And if Mannarino hung up to 6-6 the one who had been very close to crunching Rafael Nadal in California last week, in the decisive game, already, there was no photo between the two men (7-3 in favor of Kyrgios). The latter will face Andrey Rublev. “Kokkiboy” will be opposed to Diego Schwartzman. There are only six Tricolores left in the table.
