Auston Matthews Leads Team Matthews to Victory in 2024 NHL All-Star Game Finals

The sport? Ice hockey, what else. The scene? Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada. The event? None other than the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, of course.

Auston Matthews led his Team Matthews to victory in this year’s edition of the All-Star tournament. The Toronto Maple Leafs star recorded two goals and an assist in the finals against Team McDavid and was named MVP for his trouble. Team Matthews is awarded a million dollars to split for the tournament victory.

– I see these weekends as an opportunity to have fun, said Matthews on the ice immediately after the victory. We’re all competitive here, of course, and a weekend like this brings out the best in everyone. I couldn’t have written the script any better than this, to be honest.

– I want to say a big thank you to the fans, the organization, the city of Toronto and the NHL for organizing such a great show. This was really fun.

The matches, which were played in a three-on-three format and in two ten-minute periods, offered, just as expected, a lot of entertainment. And this is how it happened.

Final – Team Matthews vs. Team McDavid 7-4

Clayton Keller was the somewhat unexpected scorer as the “home team” Team Matthews took the lead in the final after 2:19. However, the breakthrough came from team captain Matthews – who had a grand final game coming up.

Boone Jenner became the even more unlikely scorer to answer for Team McDavid when he tied the game at 1-1 with 5:08 on the clock. Then the superstars stepped into the action.

– We wanted to give the fans here at home a show, said Mitchell Marner.

All said and done: Marner made it 2-1 for Team Matthews at 7:11 on a goalie rebound off a William Nylander shot.

The eighth minute of the first half then became an island walk: David Pastrnak 2-2 after 8:08, captain Matthews 3-2 for his team after 8:13 and Leon Draisaitl equalizer 3-3, played by captain Connor McDavid, after 8:26.

However, Team McDavid seemed to have burned all their powder in the first half. Because in the second period it was mostly about Team Matthews – with Auston Matthews at the helm. Filip Forsberg gave Team Matthews a 4-3 lead after 1:06 and then it was the home team for the entire penny. Matthews notched his second goal and third point of the game when he pounded it to make it 5-3 at the 4:59 mark. After that, various fox games followed where Team McDavid tried to catch up by taking out the goalkeeper, but Team Matthews was able to hold off and win with the final numbers 7-4.

… and this is how Team Matthews and Team McDavid made it to the finals.
