The pandemic helped companies accelerate their digital transformation process, but it also highlighted the shortage of professionals to meet the demand.
The phenomenon did not occur only in Peru, other more advanced countries in the industry such as the United States have the same problem and are now seeking to recruit experts from Latin America.
The North American firm Austin Software is dedicated precisely to this, recruiting software developers in the region to remotely join the teams of technology companies in Silicon Valley.
Frank Licea, co-founder and CTO of Austin Software, announces the company’s arrival in Peru and sets a goal of recruiting 40 experts by the end of the year.
One of the advantages, he says, is the country’s strong financial technology. “Furthermore, the time zone connects with that of the United States and this is very relevant because decisions are made during the day,” he points out.
He emphasizes that both cultures have coincidences. “It may not seem important that we play the same video games or watch the same movies, but when we relate this becomes relevant”, says Frank Licea.
attractive profile
Frank Licea explains that due to the accelerated pace at which technology companies are growing, “it is natural that they require more personnel.”
To get a job as a developer in Silicon Valley, he says, a good level of English is essential.
In addition, they bet on senior talent. “These are companies that scale very quickly and don’t have time to guide a professional. Everyone is expected to be moderately autonomous”, says Frank Licea.
What are the challenges of signing these talents? Developers usually feel comfortable where they work because they are highly appreciated, so they are not always willing to take risks.
The average annual salary of a (Peruvian) tech expert in Silicon Valley is between US$50,000 and US$80,000 per year. “As long as there is talent, companies are willing to pay salaries of up to US$150,000 a year, but considering the discount for the country’s taxes,” says Licea.
In order to attract the best professionals in the sector, Austin Software will make alliances with universities.
