Austin is no longer among the top 10 cities to live in, according to the latest report from US News | Univision 62 Austin KAKW

AUSTIN, Texas.- The capital of Texas, Austin, is no longer among the best 10 cities to live according to the annual ranking of US News & World Report.

The metropolitan area of Austin dropped to number 13 this year. The Texan capital ranked No. 3 in 2020 and No. 1 for three consecutive years since 2017. However, it remains the Top rated place in Texas.

Data in the report was categorized into factors including job availability, housing availability, quality of life, and convenience. According to the report, Austin attracts people from other states, “in part because Texas does not have a personal or corporate income tax.” However, something that affected the ranking of the Texan capital was the high housing prices.

Austin houses at very high prices

According to the 2021 population estimates from the Census Bureau, Austin is seeing a net growth of 146 people per day. Which represents a great demand for housing, but little supply.

“Austin’s unprecedented economic growth shows no signs of stopping, with new project announcements almost daily. While this is great for Austin in the long run, our ability to house people cannot be sustained as people have to drive more outside the city limits to find a house they can afford”said Scott Turner, president of the Austin Home Builders Association.

Huntsville, Alabama, ranked No. 1 from last year’s top-ranked metro area, Boulder, Colorado. Huntsville was in third place last year.
