Austin FC easily defeated Dynamo Houston on Tuesday at Q2 Stadium, winning 3-1.
By virtue of this victory, the host team grabbed first place in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), one point ahead of Los Angeles FC. The Californian club, however, has a game in hand.
It’s a fourth consecutive victory for Austin FC, who have not lost in MLS since losing 4-1 to the Los Angeles Galaxy on 29 May.
Dynamo thought they were in a good position to create a surprise in the duel of the day, when they took the lead in the 11th minute. Adalberto Carrasquilla broke through the opposing defense before beating Brad Stuver with a low shot.
Diego Fagundez didn’t take long to respond for Austin FC. Moments later, he lodged a free kick directly in the upper part of the goal to level the mark.
It was former CF Montreal Max Urruti who broke the deadlock in the 57th minute. Sebastian Drussi served him a clever save and he had all the time in the world to unleash a powerful shot into the small left net.
Alexander Ring nailed Dynamo’s coffin by redirecting a header in the 70th minute.
