“Aušrinės” volleyball players won the Lithuanian championship

The Jonavas “Aušrinės” club triumphed in the Lithuanian women’s volleyball championship after an eight-year break. Over the weekend, Jonava’s team won the series 2-0 in the final against the Kaunas “Kauno-VDU” team, which lost the championship title.

In the second match of the final on Sunday, “Aušrinė” beat the Kaunas team 3-1 (25:19, 25:13, 13:25, 25:22) at VDU Valdos Adamkaus Sports Center.

This match ended the streak of six consecutive Lithuanian championships won by “Kauno-VDU”.

After winning the first match, led by positive emotions, the girls from Jonavis successfully started the second match as well. The first set was won quite confidently, and “Aušrinė” dominated even more clearly in the second. However, the decisive step had to be delayed. The girls from Kaunas took advantage of the relaxation of their opponents and also confidently won the third set.

In the fourth set, there was an even fight, but at the end, “Aušrinė” came forward and never let the victory slip away.

For the winners, 22 points were scored by Ekaterina Kovalskaja, 14 by Iryna Yakutavičienė, 11 by Danielė Kvedaraitė, and 8 by Marina Šramko.

Martyna Paukštytė (16 pts), Viltė Bogdanovič (13 pts) and Kotryna Motiejūnaitė (10 pts) played the most productively in the “Kauno-VDU” team.

“Aušrinė” also took revenge for Kaunas’s failure in the final of this year’s Baltic League.

After the Baltic League, we had a considerable break, we rested a bit, we drew conclusions. We had more time and intensively prepared for the finals. On Sunday, you had to wait patiently and fight for every point. It was patience that made it possible to wait for the victory. We still have room for improvement, so you will try to defend the title in the future”, said Raimonda Strelkauskaitė, coach of “Aušrinės”.
