Esther Bejarano dies at the age of 96
Esther Bejarano had played in the Auschwitz girls’ orchestra with Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and others. As for the age of Bejarano, Mendel was obviously wrong: According to consistent sources, Bejarano was born on December 15, 1924 and was therefore only 96 years old at the time of her death.
Shortly after the news became known, the sympathy in social networks is very high. The topic dominates the discussion on Twitter, with a total of over 3,000 tweets about the death report. Many express their condolences.
Bejarano “fell asleep peacefully and quietly”
Bejarano was considered an important contemporary witness of the Holocaust. For years she later became involved in the association of those persecuted by the Nazi regime – the Association of Antifascists. The committee confirmed Bejarano’s death to the news magazine Hinz & Kunzt on Saturday morning. Accordingly, after a short, serious illness, she “fell asleep peacefully”.
Just a few weeks ago, Bejarano had taken part in the inauguration of a memorial for Nazi forced laborers in Verden.
