Paris is unhappy with that Australia signed the AUKUS agreement on the construction of nuclear submarines, thus withdrawing from the agreement with France.
Last week’s AUKUS agreement, seen as a tool to reduce China’s influence, put an end to the $ 37 billion agreement signed in 2016 between Australia and In France. The contract provided for France to build 12 conventional submarines.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Ledriaan described Australia’s accession to the AUKUS framework as a “backstroke”, which is “unacceptable behavior between allies and partners”.
France has continued to express its dissatisfaction with AUKUS this week as well. Ledriaan said that this agreement showed the preservation of reflexes that “came from the time that we had hoped had passed”.
Ladian added that the French-American alliance means “transparency”, “explanation” and “talking to each other”. The minister also condemned the “very confrontational orientation” of the United States towards China and said it regretted that Europe had been “excluded” from Washington’s Asia-Pacific strategy.
