The Swedish national team defender Ludwig Augustinsson, 27, recently signed for last year’s La Liga-four Sevilla in a transfer that is said to be worth around SEK 55 million. The Swede then left Werder Bremen after the club left the German Bundesliga this spring.
Now the left-back has given a first interview in Sevilla’s official channels, where he tells more about the move.
– I’m very happy to be here. Sevilla is a big club and I can not wait to get started. It is a fantastic day for me and my family to be in Seville, says Augustinsson.
The transition from Bremen to Sevilla picked up speed in the last few days, says the left-back.
– I found out the interest from my agent, who told me a few weeks ago. Then it escalated a bit the last few days. An offer came to Werder Bremen and then everything happened very quickly. I immediately felt that I wanted to move here – it was an easy decision for me. I know what Sevilla have done in Europe and La Liga in recent years, so it was an opportunity I had to take.
Augustinsson now becomes historic as Sevilla’s first Swedish player ever on the men’s side.
– I feel very, very proud, but it is also a responsibility, because I want to do well and show that Swedish players also have qualities, he says about it.
The goal of the Andalusian big club is clear: to win titles.
– Sevilla has won many titles in recent years and throughout history. It would be incredible to win a title here and it should always be a goal in Sevilla. But I prefer not to talk too much but do it on the pitch instead, says Augustinsson.
Sevilla have won the UEFA Cup / Europa League on six occasions, most recently in the 2019/20 season. The club’s only league title so far came in 1945/46.
Last year’s fourth place also means that Sevilla will play Champions League football this autumn. This is something Ludwig Augustinsson longs for a little extra.
– Playing in the Champions League is what all players want. I did it five years ago, so it’s been a while. It’s a special tournament with a special anthem. It’s something really special and it really gives me goosebumps, he says.
Augustinsson came to Bremen from FC Copenhagen in the summer of 2017 and managed to score two goals and eleven assists in 98 matches in the Bundesliga. Previously, the left-back also has a background with games in IFK Gothenburg and Brommapojkarna.
