The Madelinot archipelago experienced one of the hottest August months in its history, says Environment Canada.
So far, the average temperature is very close to 20 degrees Celsius while the monthly normal is 17.8 degrees.
According to Environment Canada meteorologist Simon Legault, the high humidity caused by the mass of hot air that hit the province gave the impression of a stretched heatwave, particularly between August 10 and 20.
He explains that during this period, day and night temperatures were above normal, especially on August 14.
While Eastern Quebec has been experiencing more of a drought in terms of precipitation since the beginning of the month, the Islands have received about 55 millimeters of rain, below the monthly average of 85 millimeters.
The meteorologist expects the end of the month with a return to temperatures to seasonal normals with slightly higher-than-usual nighttime temperatures as well as more rainfall in September.
