August 30, National Liberation Day

Libreville, Friday January 26, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The Council of Ministers on January 22 adopted a draft decree to this effect.

Among the national celebrations, the Gabonese will now have to include that of August 30 which will soon enter the agenda under the title: “National Liberation Day”. This is an official event being downloaded established by a draft decree from the Council of Ministers of January 22, 2024. The said project follows numerous requests made by certain Gabonese people including the President of the National Assembly, Jean-François Ndongou, who during the ceremony of presenting his wishes, launched an appeal in this direction to the Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

Indeed, it is a question of celebrating the advent of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) which, on August 30, 2023, overthrew the old regime led by Ali Bongo Ondimba. This act of bravery carried out by the Defense and Security Forces and celebrated by all Gabonese people was hailed as a liberation because it put an end to nearly 57 years of rule by the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG).

The defense and security forces chose the right time to act to prevent the country from falling into chaos after electoral results contested by the population who were already shunning the single ballot for the presidential and legislative elections as part of the general elections of August 26, 2023.
