August 2023 Game Sales: GTA V Tops Chart Again as Players Seize Discounts

August was a month where players took advantage of the moderate shortage of releases to pick up popular titles at lower prices and end the backlog. So much so that sales of console and PC games were 7% higher than in 2023 in the same month.

This is according to Gamesindustry.biz, which has released sales data for the region for the previous month. Thanks to them, we know that Grand Theft Auto V climbed back to number one in sales (sales up to 5.7% more than last year), and then Star Wars Outlaws was launched. It’s a bittersweet second place, because compared to the last big Star Wars game before it (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor EA), Outlaws sold less than half as much at launch as Cal Kestis did in the – sequel.

After them comes Hogwarts Legacy, as the media did not get access to the sales figures for Black Myth: Wukong. This was followed by Kingdom COMe: Deliverance (with a non-refundable offer on Steam) and what we can consider a farewell to EA Sports FC 24 with the ratings.

Then followed Borderlands 3 (pushed by the movie?), Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto Online, Titanfall 2 and It Takes Two.
