Augsburg surprises Munich at Jackson anniversary

Munich (dpa) – The Augsburg panthers spoiled the anniversary game of Munich coach Don Jackson. In his 900th game as a coach in the German Ice Hockey League, Jackson and EHC Red Bull lost 5: 6 (2: 1, 1: 5, 2: 0) in the Bayern derby on Tuesday and fell to third in the southern group back. Augsburg, however, celebrated the second success. The 64-year-old Jackson is with a total of eight championship titles (5x with the Eisbären Berlin and 3x with Munich) the most successful coach in DEL history.

Things looked great for the Munich coach and his team after goals from Philip Gogulla (9th minute) and Maximilian Daubner (13th) when Adam Payerl (5th) scored. After three goals from Augsburg within 98 seconds by Dennis Miller (29th), Andrew Leblanc (30th) and Daniel Kristo (31st) as well as another goal by Leblanc (34th) it was 5: 2 for the Panthers. Trevor Parkes (39th) was able to shorten for Munich, TJ Trevelyan (39th) ensured the three-goal lead again. Zachary Redmond (43.) and Daryl Boyle (60.) marked the 5-6 final score from Munich’s point of view.

Front runner Adler Mannheim lost for the first time in the new season. The leaders of the southern group, who had previously been unbeaten in six games, were defeated by the Schwenninger Wild Wings 1: 3 (1: 2, 0: 0, 0: 1) and thus missed the expansion of the table lead. The Schwenninger, who were surprisingly good in this season, climbed to second place with their fifth win of the season.

The Schwenningen professionals Tyson Spink (14th minute), Andreas Thuresson (19th) and Jamie MacQueen (60th) met for the Wild Wings in front of empty stands in Mannheim. Only national player Markus Eisenschmid (18th) was successful for the Adler, making it 1-1 in the meantime.
