The Advent season has always been a time of cosiness and homeliness. That and the associated Advent magic cannot even take Corona away from us. And what does the Advent season include? Of course lights!
Despite Corona, there are lights in downtown Augsburg and in many district centers as well as for the first time in Frauentorstrasse in the cathedral district. And more beautiful and diverse than usual. Discover the additional facade illuminations on the Königsbau, the Maximilian Museum, the Anna Church at Martin-Luther-Platz and in Annastraße Unter dem Bogen. The Augsburg chandeliers are also hanging over the old town creeks and in Kö-Park. There are also shining angel wings on the Rathausplatz near our Christmas tree as a selfie point for bright greetings from Augsburg. Because light not only provides security, but also joy and confidence.
In the past few weeks it has been said again and again that contacts should be kept to a minimum. But does that even match the festive Advent atmosphere in the city center? Yes, it works if we all adhere to the regulations. Because despite all due caution, we must not lose sight of the survival of the inner cities and neighborhoods. They are the anchor of our social cohesion and ensure life in the cities. After Corona, these ensure a diverse and lively city experience. But this will no longer be possible without gastronomy and, above all, local retailers. How can we prevent that?
- Look for local online offers and maybe try to replace a purchase from a large online platform
- Ask the sellers what kids really want for Christmas this year
- Ask the professionals which glasses or sweaters really suit you
- Buy local vegetables at the city market in the fresh air
Show your solidarity with the local dealers. Online comparison portals may be practical, but often do not take into account the stationary local offers, which can often be cheaper.
An example of this is certainly the design department store “Zwischenzeit” (Link: www.augsburg-city.de/zwischenzeit). In Annastraße 16 in Augsburg you can discover regional, upcycled or fairly produced offers – from jewelry to fashion to special stationery gifts, plush toys and individual food creations. All 15 young entrepreneurs jointly show how multifaceted Augsburg is and what great and sustainable products are available here.
Those who do not want to commit themselves can again this year gastronomy, trade and culture with an Augsburg City Voucher (Link: www.augsburg-city.de/gutschein) support. A gift that can be redeemed in over 120 shops and institutions in Augsburg.
And if you want to do something good for yourself, you should buy the Augsburg City – Advent Calendar (www.augsburg-city.de/adventskalender), behind which you can expect more than 50 prizes from Augsburg with a total value of over 3000 euros.
I wish you a nice pre-Christmas season
