National team coach Toni Söderholm announced on Thursday his squad of 28 squad members for the 2022 German Cup. The traditional tournament will be held for the fifth consecutive time in the YAYLA ARENA in Krefeld from 10 to 13 November 2022. Last year, the Selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation eV celebrated the victory of the tournament for the first time since 2015.
At this year’s Deutschland Cup, Söderholm relies on a mix of young and experienced players in national team jerseys. Most of the DEB selection is made up of PENNY DEL players. Among the 28 candidates there are not only 14 rookies in the tournaments, but also four newcomers to the national team A of the DEB. Tobias Fohrler (HC Ambri-Piotta) and Marc Michaelis (SCL Tigers Langnau) also travel from Switzerland. With Samuel Soramies, a panther from Augsburg is also part of the squad. The DEB team will meet in Krefeld next Tuesday, November 8, 2022, to prepare for the upcoming matches.

Söderholm also welcomes two new faces to the coaching staff. This year, for the first time, he will be supported on the board by Pekka Kangasalusta and Alexander Sulzer. Kangasalusta has worked in Finland for many years as a player and coach. He personally coached Toni Söderholm in the 2014/15 season at his former HIFK team in the Finnish Liiga. Since this season, Pekka Kangasalusta has been part of the official coaching team of HC Slovan Bratislava as an assistant coach. Former NHL and national team player Alexander Sulzer, who is now assistant coach of DEL at the Fischtown Pinguins, also joins the German coaching team as part of the Deutschland Cup 2022. Ilpo Kauhanen will once again be in charge of coaching the goalkeepers. Kauhanen has been an integral part of the DEB coaching team for many years and is now playing his third German Cup with the German team.

In the afternoon, the Slovakian teams and the newcomers of the Austria tournament (16:15) will open the German Cup 2022.
