The Quebecer bowed 6-3, 6-4 against the American Jenson Brooksby, Thursday, and he was eliminated from the ATP 500 tournament presented in Washington.
The two 20-year-old tennis players crossed swords for the first time in their careers.
Brooksby, who points to 130e world rank, had the advantage over Auger-Aliassime on both serve and return to claim the tournament’s second seed in one hour and 25 minutes.
The American will cross swords with Australia’s John Millman in the quarter-finals on Friday.
After the duel, Auger-Aliassime recognized that his opponent has a lot of potential.
“He will be dangerous in the future,” said the Quebecer, who will celebrate his 21e birthday sunday.
This is another quick elimination for the 15e World racket against a lower ranked player than him.
At the Tokyo Olympics a week earlier, Auger-Aliassime was surprised in the first round by Australian Max Purcell in two rounds. Purcell replaced Briton Andy Murray, who withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
Auger-Aliassime will now turn his attention to the National Bank Open, where he will be the 13e first in the series. The men’s section will begin on August 9 in Toronto.
The official draw for the main draws for the two rounds of the National Bank Open, which will determine the week’s clashes, will take place on Saturday.
The women’s component of the tournament will be presented at the same time in Montreal.
