AUF Uruguay Cup: Arsenal was eliminated in a penalty shootout against Litoral

Arsenal tied 1-1 with Litoral de Paysandú and was eliminated from the AUF Uruguay Cup in the penalty shootout where the goalkeeper from Paysandú was a key player, stopping 3 of the 4 shots taken by the team from Salta.
The match started off well for Jorge Noboa’s team, who managed to take the lead in the 24th minute with a goal by Jorge Echenausi after a mistake by the visiting goalkeeper. Arsenal took the lead offensively in the first half, although they had defensive failures, leaving a lot of space for the rival attackers, which led to some interventions by goalkeeper Federico Noboa. At the start of the second half, Litoral had the opportunity to equalize, but Paulino Varietti deflected his shot in the 52nd minute. Just a minute later, Anderson Cuelho equalized, which at that moment was fair, since Arsenal’s defensive misunderstandings meant that Litoral had a series of chances to score. From the moment the match was equal onwards, the match went back and forth, with little traffic in the middle of the field and many offensive incidents by both teams. In this context, Emiliano Maciel’s speed and skill were one of Arsenal’s weapons for creating danger towards the rival goal. The minutes passed and the tie became immutable, so the decision was taken to go to penalties.
In that instance, goalkeeper Ayrton De León was the star, saving three penalties and converting one of his team’s shots. Litoral won away and Arsenal’s participation in this edition of the Uruguay Cup ended.
