The Audi Holoride system will use virtual reality glasses and XR technology.

German luxury carmaker Audi has announced the integration of Holoride virtual reality technology into its cars starting this year. The car brand claims that this technology will make the driving experience for the passengers less boring through the use of virtual reality technologies up to XR (extended reality). Holoride technology was shown to the world again at CES in 2019.

Audi claims this tech uses a VR headset that rear seat passengers can use while the car is in motion. The VR headset remains wirelessly connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Audi said it will offer Holoride technology through its third-generation modular infotainment kit, or MIB 3, which will be available on select models from June this year. The technology will initially be available in Audi vehicles such as the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8, e-Tron and e-Tron GT Quattro.

This technology will also be available in Europe, Canada, Japan, China and the United States. The German automaker claims that Holoride technology will allow passengers to experience movies, video games and other interactive content. This would make their travel experience less boring and more of a multimedia gaming event.

Holoride VR technology is designed to take vehicle movement into account for a more immersive gaming experience. This means if the Audi turns right, the car will turn right in VR. When accelerating and braking, the car does the same in a VR game.

Audi also said that the Holoride VR technology is ready for autonomous driving systems of the future when drivers don’t have to worry about driving anymore.
