‘Audi does not want to introduce cars with a combustion engine after 2026’ – Image and sound – News

Hybrids have the disadvantages of both EVs and fuel cars, double complexity, a lot of weight, many moving parts, more that can break, etc. I see that mainly as an awkward intermediate step.

Hydrogen has a lot of huge challenges, like making it: electrolysis requires huge tons of power and we can’t keep extracting hydrogen from natural gas like we do now. In addition, the brittleness of everything you transport hydrogen in or through, the volatility, the high pressure which is a challenge for refueling, again higher complexity / maintenance / wear compared to pure EV, etc. The hydrogen discussion here is this fed several times a week.

The best solution for personal transport is the EV, but with fewer and less problematic substances (in particular in terms of extraction and scarcity, and also health). It is possible to make good EVs without cobalt, lithium and other troublesome substances; it only takes the necessary time, attention and money.

The more automakers embrace the EV, the more they’ll look at greater efficiency and new variants. And the more governments can set requirements.

The EV isn’t where it needs to be, but neither was the fuel car in its early years. Neither the airplane nor most of the other inventions. It can and must be improved, and that process is underway.
