According to a trade union source, there may be 26 days of temporary unemployment in the period up to and including June. Ten of these have already been deployed in the current two weeks.
In addition, it would also be examined whether the production speed can be reduced. If the belt runs slower, fewer people are needed, which would be bad news for the plant’s nearly 500 temporary workers.
According to Peter D’hoore, spokesperson for the Brussels factory, production is currently “with a two-week outlook, because the supply of parts remains volatile and changes at short notice are always possible.”
The unions deduce from the production planning that the electric luxury SUV Q8 e-tron that the factory builds is not doing so well commercially. According to a trade union official, Audi Brussels is aiming for a production of around 53,000 cars by 2024, a similar number to that of 2023.
Earlier this week it was also announced that the new generation of the Q8 e-tron would no longer be produced at the Vorst factory from 2027. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced during question time in Parliament that there will be a task force to examine the future of Audi Brussels.
