Arsenal shot in the Premier League title race this season. Having just lost once in 19 matches, the Gunners are currently leading with 50 points from 16 wins and two draws.
Mikel Arteta’s team currently leads by five points from Manchester City, who have played one game more, in second place. Seeing Arsenal’s consistency in getting the points so far, it is believed that the title will fall into their hands.
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that this situation has the potential to haunt Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s mind. Aubameyang, who is now defending Chelsea, had played four years at Arsenal until then he had problems with Mikel Arteta.
Arteta called the striker from Gabonese indiscipline, to the point of removing him from the captaincy. Aubameyang then joined Barcelona and was bought by Chelsea last summer.
Arsenal’s rise since Aubameyang’s departure has given the impression that Arteta’s decision to expel the player was correct.
“I said it at the start of the season when they (Chelsea) bought him, it looked like a panic buy. Aubameyang is still a quality striker, but he’s not like he used to be,” Petit told Sporting Post quoted Metro.
“I think he’s lost his passion and I think after his period at Barcelona he can see what Arsenal are doing without him. What Jesus and Nketiah are doing.”
“Maybe he thought if he had behaved well he could have been a part of what’s going on there right now.”
