Football fans in eastern Germany can look forward to seeing prominent teams in the stadiums in Berlin and Leipzig. Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo could compete there in the European Championship preliminary round.
Berlin and Leipzig, as venues in eastern Germany, received attractive encounters in the group draw for the 2024 European Football Championship on Saturday in Hamburg. In the group phase, Spain will play Croatia against Croatia in the Berlin Olympic Stadium on June 15th. On June 21st, Austria with German coach Ralf Rangnick will play against the winner of playoff path A. That could be Poland with star striker Robert Lewandowski. The other three participants in the final qualifying round in March are Wales, Estonia and Finland. On June 25th, Austria will face the Netherlands in the capital. All group games in Berlin kick off at 6 p.m.
Three interesting encounters will also take place in Leipzig. On June 18th, Portugal, possibly with Cristiano Ronaldo, will play against the Czech Republic in the trade fair city. On June 21st there will be a top duel between Holland and vice world champion France and on June 24th Croatia will play against defending champion Italy in the RB Leipzig arena. Kick-off is at 9 p.m., as UEFA announced on Saturday evening a few hours after the draw.
Germany could be guests in the round of 16 in Berlin on June 29th (6 p.m.) if national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s selection comes second in the group. Further knockout games in Berlin are the quarter-finals on July 6th (9 p.m.) and the final on July 14th (9 p.m.). After the group phase, there will be a round of 16 in Leipzig on July 2nd (9 p.m.). Germany will certainly not play in the arena there at the European Championships.
