Attracting talented youth into science, education and economics

The moderator of the meeting, director of the management company of the REC RB Natalia Latypova noted that the Interuniversity student campus of the Eurasian REC in Ufa is the first campus in the country launched within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”, and today it is already a fully functioning center for the development of science, interdisciplinary education and creative industries of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a new point of attraction for schoolchildren, students, and youth:

– For Bashkortostan, as an industrial region, the issue of education and personnel selection for employers is extremely important and strategic. In the context of the need to ensure technological sovereignty and leadership, personnel, along with government support measures, play a key role in achieving the tasks set by the President of Russia. At the same time, the trajectory that a young specialist should follow should begin at school, seamlessly pass through training at a university and end at the enterprise.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Olga Petrova addressed the participants of the retreat with a welcoming speech. She noted that qualified specialists are becoming a decisive factor for the sustainable development of the economy and society:

– How to identify a talented specialist who will make the work of the enterprise effective? This is a task for everyone – both the education sector and employers. Finding the right person is not only about identifying his talents, but also about properly integrating him into the team so that the work brings results. It is important to start with choosing a profession and create an education that will ensure a smooth transition from school to employer. Education should not just provide knowledge, but prepare a person for real life, so that work can be a source of income and pleasure.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Science, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Stepan Kalmykov, Deputy Head – State Secretary of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Denis Ashirov, First Deputy General Director of the Presidential Platform “Russia – the Land of Opportunities” Alexey Agafonov, First Deputy Minister of Education and science of Bashkortostan Svetlana Antipina, General Director of the Mashuk Knowledge Center and Deputy General Director of the Russian Society “Knowledge” Anton Serikov, President of the Sistema Charitable Foundation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Larisa Pastukhova, Rector of the Ufa State Petroleum Technical University Oleg Baulin, General Producer of the National Priorities ANO Gleb Fedorov, Executive Director of the Physics and Technology Schools Development Fund and Head Technopark Phystech Lyceum named after P. L. Kapitsa Andrey Bogdanov, program director of the Discussion VOSTOK club and General Director of the Nature and People Foundation Sergei Rybakov.

The speakers outlined the importance of a systematic and interdisciplinary approach, breadth of scientific horizons for success in modern science. President of the Sistema Charitable Foundation Larisa Pastukhova noted in her speech a number of projects that the foundation is implementing: “Elevator to the Future”, “First Internship”, “First Job”. They allow you to build an inextricable connection “school-university-employer” and accompany young people from school to their first job:

– According to a study by the Sistema Charitable Foundation, 66% of young people first thought about the profession that they ultimately chose for vocational education while still at school. Moreover, a quarter of young people made their choice before moving to high school. This makes it clear that a young person’s career trajectory begins long before entering universities and colleges—career guidance is getting younger, and today large employers understand this.

USPTU Rector Oleg Baulin shared support measures and initiatives that contribute to the creative and professional development of young employees at the university:

– First of all, this is financial support provided at the university. These are payments for publications in international journals and incentives for teaching staff involved in the preparation of dissertations. This is also a large volume of university activities related to the implementation of leadership projects: we support several hundred projects annually, and this year about 30 million rubles have been allocated for these purposes.

Participants of the event learned about support options that contribute to the development of a continuous career path, methods for realizing personal potential on the path to professional success, the role and capabilities of non-profit organizations in resolving issues related to the identification and development of talents in the field of science and education.

Concluding the meeting, the program director of the VOSTOK Discussion Club, General Director of the Nature and People Foundation, Sergei Rybakov, summed up the results of the retreat and shared the club’s plans on the topic of youth policy for the near future:

– Youth policy in Russia today is being adapted to the needs of the economy – the request for its adjustment is dictated by the needs of the labor market. The goal of Russia’s new national projects is to prepare young personnel in demand by the market. The Government of the Russian Federation plans to annually formulate a five-year forecast of the need for personnel both at the level of the entire economy and in the context of individual regions, industries and professions. Management decisions will be made based on this data. Coordination and support of this work from the state will increase the effectiveness of companies’ efforts to train future personnel for the national economy.

The construction of the Interuniversity student campus of the Eurasian Research and Educational Center is being carried out on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation and as part of the implementation of the national project “Science and Universities” of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The Ufa campus project is a student space with residential premises for 4.3 thousand people, an educational and scientific complex, laboratories, business areas, shops, cozy squares and other objects of a comfortable urban environment, which will also be available to all residents and guests of Ufa.
