Indonesia failed to reach the final of the 2022 AFF Cup, after being defeated by Vietnam in the semifinals. After a 0-0 draw at Senayan, Shin Tae-yong’s troops lost 0-2 at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi on Monday (9/1/2023).
In the semi-final, Indonesia was said to be disturbed by the actions of Doan Van Hau. The Vietnamese defender managed to play tough, thus provoking the emotions of the opposing players.
In the first leg, Doan Van Hau’s tough tackle got the Indonesian players excited as they escaped a card penalty. This situation was mentioned by coach Shin Tae-yong on his social media.
Then when he played in Hanoi, the 23-year-old defender played tough again. Doan Van Hau booked, but the Indonesian players still seemed dissatisfied.
Several times, players like Marc Klok and Ricky Kambuaya got emotional Free Van Hau. conditions it creates Indonesia branded just focused and distracted by opponent’s defenders, instead of Vietnam as a team.
In response to this, former Thailand manager Steven Darby commented. He considered Indonesian players unprofessional if they were really bothered by Doan Van Hau’s actions.
“If Indonesian players lose focus just because of Van Hau, it shows that they lack professionalism,” he said, reported by VN Express.
“At international level, players have to focus on doing their job well, without being distracted by their opponents. Players have to control what they can control, which is individual performance,” he said.
