Attorney General’s Office Alarmed by Low Compliance in Colombia’s Vaccination Plan and Gunpowder Use

The Attorney General’s Office set off alarms due to the levels of compliance in the strategic vaccination plan in Colombia. There is special concern in the departments of Cundinamarca, Valle del Cauca, Vaupés and Vichada.

612,970 children under one year of age would have to receive the biological BGC (tuberculosis) in 2023, but only 71% of the goal has been reached and 75% of the pentavalent dose, which protects against five diseases: diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus , influenza type b and hepatitis b.

As for the 634,447 who are one year old, 77% have been injected against measles and 70% have received the pentavalent one a year after the third dose. By the age of 18 months, 69% have completed the measles dose, according to the Public Ministry.

“In five-year-old boys and girls, it is recorded that, of a total population of 693,887, only 73% have received the DPT vaccine that protects against diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus,” the Attorney General’s Office stated this Sunday, December 10.

The magnifying glass was placed on Cundinamarca and Valle del Cauca, where coverage against tuberculosis does not exceed 41% of the objective; Meanwhile, in Vaupés and Vichada the measles doses in children under 18 months and five years old are below 40%.

Although it was recognized that three massive vaccination days have been carried out, entities and institutions were urged to reinforce the application of biologicals in the remainder of this year and to carry out strategies that involve families in the processes.

“The Attorney General’s Office calls on incoming leaders to prioritize strategies in their development plans so that the boys and girls of their territories have full enjoyment of their fundamental right to health and are vaccinated,” the entity added. .

On the other hand, there are only ten days into the month of December and the number of burns has already reached 268, ending on December 9, and the authorities are beginning to worry about the constant calls about the dangers that misuse or handling of gunpowder can generate, causing serious accidents and people affected by burns.

According to a statement issued by the control entity, the National Police was also asked to reinforce the inspection, surveillance and control actions of the use, storage, distribution, transportation and marketing of gunpowder.

“As well as the registrations and operating permits of commercial establishments and natural or legal persons dedicated to their production, sale and marketing,” the Attorney General’s Office said in the text.

This is a recommendation and request that will not only apply to authorities such as the Police and ICBF, but is directed towards local and regional leaders. These, as indicated by the Attorney General’s Office, must take “concrete and immediate actions to prohibit the use of gunpowder and to avoid the risk that minors run when, irresponsibly, they are allowed to use and manipulate pyrotechnic articles. ”.

“Promote awareness and prevention campaigns in relation to the consequences of the manipulation of these elements,” said the disciplinary body.
