Attorney General Paxton: Attorney General Recovered $ 1.2 Billion for Texas Taxpayers

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced today that the Texas Attorney General’s Office recovered $ 1.2 billion in civil litigation between fiscal year 2015 and fiscal year 2020, an average of more than $ 200 million for each year. This total recovery was obtained from collections in cases involving administrative law, consumer protection, antitrust, bankruptcy, environmental protection, financial litigation, and Medicaid charity, transportation, and civil fraud trusts.

“I am immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of the civil litigation teams in my office. Not only have they taken on some of the most substantial cases of the decade, but they have recovered millions for Texas taxpayers each year and have continued to maintain our position as a significant source of income and savings for our great state, “said the Attorney General Paxton. “Through litigation, state advocacy, and consistently strategic decision-making, this office successfully avoided and minimized costs while fulfilling our mission to defend freedom and justice for all Texans. We will continue to fulfill that mission. “

Some of the cases that contributed to this remarkable recovery total include settlements with:

  • AstraZeneca – $ 110 million
  • Mallinckrodt – $ 90 million specified for opioid reduction
  • Lupin Pharmaceuticals – $63.5 millones
  • Wells Fargo – $ 40.5 million
  • CVS – $ 22 million
  • Fiat – $ 9.1 million
  • Johnson and Johnson – $5.7 millones
  • Honda – $ 3.9 million

The $ 1.2 billion in tax dollars recovered does not include the $ 4.8 billion collected in child support during fiscal year 2020, which served more than 1.6 million children in just one year.
