Derek Chauvin (45) was found guilty in the death of George Floyd († 46) – but now he wants a new trial. His attorney, Eric Nelson, has filed a new trial for ex-police officer Chauvin.
–
Nelson justified the motion with legal errors and misconduct by the court and prosecutor. Because of the sum of the errors, the trial against Chauvin was not fair and thus deprived him of his constitutionally guaranteed rights.
–
As a justification for the latest request, Chauvin’s lawyer cited, among other things, that the judge had blocked a transfer of the process to another location. In addition, Cahill had failed to order a complete isolation of the jury from the outside world for the entire duration of the proceedings, it said.

Juror participated in demo
The retry motion comes amid a discussion over a photo of juror Brandon Mitchell. It shows him at a demonstration in Washington last August, at which George Floyd’s relatives also spoke.
–
You can see him wearing a T-shirt that says “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks”. On his jury questionnaire, Mitchell wrote that he had not participated in any protests against police brutality.
