Attje Kuiken, PvdA Party Leader, Steps Down from Joint Electoral List

PvdA party leader Attje Kuiken is not running for a place on the joint electoral list of PvdA and GroenLinks during the parliamentary elections in November. Report that AD in RTL News Friday. With this, Kuik leaves the House of Representatives after sixteen years.

Kuiken had been in the House of Representatives since 2006, for 5,994 days to be exact. Since 2022 she has been party leader of the Labor Party.

“I’ll leave it at that and pass it on to the next generation,” she tells it AD. She says she has considered her choice carefully. “I am now 45, in the prime of my life, halfway through, and I can say: I had a blast.”

The politician tells the newspaper that she would like to consider possibly holding a ministerial post in a cabinet according to her. But she does not want to speculate further on that.

“To be clear: that is not my mindset right now. It does not feel like goodbye yet. We are at the start of hopefully a very special election battle and a campaign. It would be a bit ridiculous. You should not dream about what the campaigns there after that,” says Kuiken.

“But yes, if you are asked, it would be a huge honor and you say yes. I always want to take responsibility, but I can very well imagine that there is a place for me elsewhere. I also think the police or youth services fantastic.”

The PvdA and GroenLinks will enter the elections in November. The leader of the combination will be European Commissioner Frans Timmermans.
