UDINE. Friends, acquaintances but also those who have shared with him an intense life of experiences, in hospital work or in sports. About fifty people distributed over two days paid tribute to Attilio Maseri, a world-renowned cardiologist and scientist, in the funeral home set up in the chapel of Villa Florio, in Persereano, where the professor lived.
Next to the door a notebook bearing the signatures, a gesture of affection and participation, of those who brought him the last farewell. Maseri died last Friday in the intensive care unit of the Tolmezzo hospital.
On Sunday 5th September, Elisa Gagliardi Mangilli was seated next to the coffin to welcome with great composure those who wanted to bring their comfort to the Maseri family.
«We thank the many people who have drawn close to us in this moment of great pain – the words of Elisa Gagliardi Mangilli -. We felt the affection and closeness of the whole community ».
For many years, after the death of his only son Filippo in a road accident and his beloved wife Francesca Florio, Attilio Maseri, who in 2013 donated the Florio Library to the Friulian university and in 2018 Palazzo Antonini, led an increasingly reserved life. and only open to a few longtime friends.
A convinced supporter of the importance of studying the classics, the illustrious cardiologist was also a person of great humanity and solid values.
The funeral parlor will also remain open on Monday morning, at Villa Florio. The small chapel will still be the destination of all those who want to greet the scientist, with whom they shared their love for Friuli.
Even the magnificent rector of the Friulian university, Roberto Pinton, will pay homage to the professor who looked with confidence to the young generation. Over the years an almost fraternal friendship had been created between Maseri and the rectors Cristiana Compagno, Alberto Felice De Toni and Pinton, who today remember his teachings with deep emotion.
Maseri in 2011 was appointed president of the steering body of the Santa Maria della Misericordia University Hospital of Udine, after having been part of the Scientific Review Committee of the Interdepartmental Center for Regenerative Medicine (Cime) of the then Faculty of Medicine.
The academic community, the whole of Friuli and not only on Tuesday 7, at 10.30, in the cathedral of Udine, will greet for the last time the illustrious professor who best represented our land in the world.
Attilio Maseri will rest in the Oleis cemetery, next to his wife Francesca Florio and his son Filippo. –
