Attention to ticks in the green recreational environment

Those who go out in nature may not be directly concerned with the risk of a tick bite. Yet the creature, a carrier of Lyme disease, is causing more and more misery. With a Tick Card you can help your guests in a service-oriented way to limit the consequences of a tick bite.

Anyone who stays in nature is at risk for a tick bite. And it is precisely the stay in the (Dutch) nature that has grown in popularity. Cycling, hiking, fishing, golf, but also playing on the campsite are all activities in the green, where there is a risk of a tick bite. Dogs are also a beloved host of the tick.

Why is the tick so dangerous?

Ticks are increasingly carrying Lyme disease. This is caused by the Borrelia bacteria. Lyme is a nasty, lingering disease that can cause a lot of misery if you do not realize in time that you have contracted the disease.

  • Ticks become active at a temperature of 10 degrees. The Dutch tick season therefore runs approximately from March to September.
  • About 1.5 million tick bites are registered in the Netherlands (25% of them are infected with the Borrelia bacteria).

Prevention is better than cure

Wietze Landman, expert in the field of ticks, indicates that rapid recognition of a tick bite is essential in preventing Lyme disease: “The longer the tick is stuck in the host. However, if the parasite is removed within 24 hours, it is usually safe. ”

Some practical tips that Landman would like to give the holiday makers:

  • When going out into nature, preferably wear long sleeves, trouser legs in the socks and closed footwear.
  • After returning home it is useful to check yourself and your children for tick bites. Don’t forget your pet.
  • If you notice a red circle around the bite, consult your doctor. A course of antibiotics is usually sufficient at this stage.

A safe drawing card as a marketing tool

Ticks bite into the host and must be disposed of carefully. Under no circumstances should the tick BE CROPPED during removal. Then the tick spits the sucked blood back into the bloodstream and you run an increased risk of Lyme disease if the tick is infected.

Landman developed the Character Card especially for removing ticks. The card has been specially developed to remove ticks QUICKLY AND SAFELY. Slide the ‘mouth’ of the card between the skin and the tick and you can easily pop it out. The small notch is for small ticks (nimphs) and can also be used for any remaining bee sting.

The Sign Card can be customized, including the logo or message of your company. (from 250 pieces) You thereby indicate that you take the safety of your guests seriously.

Consumers can also visit the website to order a drawing card.
