A new hoax has appeared on the Internet. The fraudster pretends to be a Microsoft employee. It informs the victim via telephone about the alleged computer attack. On Monday, he managed to rob an older man of 65,000 crowns.
On Monday, the fraudster managed to mature an older man (69) on the Internet, whose phone rang from abroad in the morning. When he answered the call, there was an English-speaking man who pretended to be a Microsoft employee.
He told him that someone must have attacked his computer. The fraudster then urged the man to gradually install the AnyDesk and QuickSupport programs as well as the cryptocurrency exchange application on his mobile phone.
“After that, the man took a photo of his ID card and energy bill, which he sent together with his photo to an unknown address. described the fraud by police spokesman Libor Hejtman and added that 65,000 crowns left the bank account. “The bank blocked two other transfers exceeding CZK 200,000,” he concluded.
The police recommend that people do not share their personal data with anyone on the phone, send copies of personal documents to unknown addresses and do not answer calls from unknown foreign numbers.
“For suspected criminals, unauthorized access to a computer system and information carrier, fraud and unauthorized measures, counterfeiting and alteration of a means of payment by the offender are punishable by three to eight years’ imprisonment.” the Governor pointed out.
