Fake electricity bill. Fraudsters send victims text messages
Frightened at the beginning, Mr. Jacek intended to log into his online bank account as soon as possible to check if he had actually forgotten about the payment. However, he remembered an article about scammers who texted victims with fake payment links.

At first I was scared and I wanted to (…) check on my account whether I had paid for the electricity. However, when I looked at the link in the SMS, I remembered recently reading an article warning against clicking on similar links – reported Mr. Jacek (Gazeta Pomorska).

Mr. Jacek’s decision saved him from stealing money from the account. He was not the first customer of the company to receive a similar SMS – the fake messages became such a plague that PGE representatives published a special appeal with a warning not to click on links in the messages under any circumstances.

Not everyone was as lucky as Mr. Jacek. Last week, a 39-year-old resident of the Biała Podlaska commune (Lubelskie Voivodeship) fell victim to the fraudsters, who clicked on a link from people impersonating PGE to pay the difference of PLN 3.46 and settle the “bill”. As a result, he lost PLN 3,000.
