Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, an educational seminar in Sohag Nursing

The Faculty of Nursing of the University of Sohag, in collaboration with the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospital, organized an educational symposium on “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder”, in the presence of Dr. Abdel Nasser Yassin, Vice President for education and student affairs, and Dr. Khaled Abdel Latif, Vice President for Community Services and Environmental Development Dr. Ghani Abdel Nasser, Dean of the College, Dr. Nour Al-Huda Mustafa, Vice President for Community Services and Development Environment, Dr. Manen Abdel-Maqsoud, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, Dr. Rania Ahmed, Director General of the General Administration of Hospital Affairs, as well as the heads of departments and members of the faculty, and a large number of students in various faculties.

Mustafa Abdel-Khaleq, President of the University, praised the symposium’s topic, as the problem of hyperactivity and lack of attention is one of the most prevalent psychological and behavioral problems among children around the world, adding that the symposium discussed the symptoms of the problem, its causes and methods of treatment, with the participation of teachers specialized in the field of psychiatry and child health.

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Abdel Nasser Yassin welcomed the guests of the university, praising the fruitful collaboration with the Sohag Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, explaining that the problem of hyperactivity and inattention is a chronic problem that affects most children and begins in childhood and continues into adulthood, and his symptoms are evident.The child suffers from learning, memory and distraction difficulties, so care should be taken to treat him early due to the psychological damage it causes to the child and affects his life and his relationship with those around him.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Latif also indicated that the symposium is part of the activities of the community service sector and environmental development plan, which is implemented throughout the year with the participation of the governorate’s civil society institutions, in order to spread awareness among citizens inside and outside the university of the most important issues and surrounding problems, and to propose concrete ways to treat and eliminate them. He stressed that discussing the topic of child mental health is no less important than health physical, because it is an essential part of health, and the interest in building a healthy and stable personality for the child contributes to acquiring experiences, skills and personal skills that are valid for the community.

Dr. Ghani Abdel Nasser explained that the symposium discussed the most important psychological problems in society, particularly in children, with the aim of knowing how to deal with the behavioral problems facing children, noting that the most important disorders of the children reside in attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsivity, where attention deficit is difficult Concentrating for a long time, not following instructions, not paying attention to details and a lot of forgetfulness, while hyperactivity is a lot of movement and instability in the place From home, providing a calm environment for the child and giving him specific orders to know exactly what is required of him without distraction, in addition to the continued exercise of the child and the importance of the child’s feeling of tenderness of the parents and following the reward policy with him and immediate punishment, in addition to treatment through behavioral programs and drug therapies under the supervision of a specialist doctor.

In the same context, Dr Nour Al-Huda Mustafa said the symposium highlighted the importance of training parents primarily to develop their abilities to cope with the child in a positive support mode, in the sense of obtaining a reward of any value when he is able to overcome difficulties and reach new social and educational goals.This in addition to the development of social skills together with the increase in self-confidence and the sense of success, which in turn will help the patient to overcome many problems and difficulties, especially in the social sphere, both in his school and in the family, underlining that these children need help until they have the ability to grow, to practice healthy behaviors and accepted by those who are Neighbor.

Dr. Akram El-Sawy, General Manager of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospital, spoke about the services provided by the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospital and their great role in diagnosing the nature of the disease and determining the optimal treatment method. and inattention, especially in children Dr. Marwa Salah, Director of the Pediatric Psychiatry Department of the hospital, introduced the disease and the organic and psychological causes that lead to hyperactivity and inattention.
