Attempted gang fraud: Two fake police officers charged | Regional

Dresden – The Dresden public prosecutor’s office has brought charges of attempted gang fraud against two men (33, 48) who posed as police officers. They were convicted by an elderly woman and her grandson.

The scam is old, but unfortunately it works again and again. The two Turkish suspects called an 84-year-old woman from Dresden in May 2024. They explained to the elderly woman that a gang was after her valuables. She should therefore pack them in a bag and hand them over to the police officers, who would later visit her at home.

“Don’t talk to anyone about it!”

At the same time, the elderly woman was asked not to speak to anyone about the matter “so as not to put herself in danger”. What the fraudsters did not realize was that the pensioner’s grandson was present during the phone call. The old lady pretended to comply with the request and alerted the police.

When the gangsters wanted to collect the valuables a short time later, the grandson threw a backpack with worthless contents at them. The fake police officers fled with the loot, but were already under police surveillance at that point. Shortly afterwards, the handcuffs clicked.

Senior Public Prosecutor Jürgen Schmidt (46): “The accused were provisionally arrested on May 24, 2024. At the request of the public prosecutor, the investigating judge of the Dresden District Court issued arrest warrants against both accused on May 25, 2024.”

The public prosecutor Dresden has also requested the confiscation of the car used by the 33-year-old accused in the crime.
