Reggio Calabria – The agents of the Reggio Calabria flying squad have carried out a precautionary measure of detention in prison issued by the investigating judge at the city Court against a man, brother of the victim of a murder committed in the Marconi district of this center in May 2023. The victim was shot and, shortly afterwards, died in hospital. According to investigators, the murder occurred in a context of strong family friction. The man, recipient of the measure, is accused of attempted aggravated extortion against a well-known lawyer from the Reggio Calabria bar, for having carried out a whole series of conduct against him, including the burning of the car him in use. The objective would have been to force the lawyer to renounce the defense mandate, both criminal and civil, in favor of the material executor of the murder, moreover the victim’s brother-in-law. At the basis of such conduct, the man’s desire to obtain exclusive custody of the murderer’s children for his sister, with equal damage to the lawyer who would thus have lost the right to compensation for the activity carried out, however failing in its intent due to the firm decision of the latter not to abandon the mandate. The police would have reconstructed, in great detail, the extortion dynamics carried out by the arrested person, recognized as the author of the fire of the car used by the lawyer.
