Attempted Coup in Democratic Republic of the Congo: Military Seizes Administrative Buildings

On the evening of Sunday, September 17, it became known about an attempted coup in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The military has reportedly seized administrative buildings.

The current President of the DRC, Felice Tshesekedi, is absent from the country and is in New York, where he arrived to participate in the UN General Assembly.

Local media suggest that the rebels are led by the commander of the presidential guard, General Serge Oboah.

The day before, a coup took place in neighboring Gabon, and earlier in Niger. All these countries are former colonies of France, in which Paris maintained influence until recently.
