Attacks on the rise in New York

The number of stabbings has increased significantly in New York over the past 12 months, according to statistics obtained by the New York Post.

The newspaper obtained the latest data from the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

On August 11, the number of attacks increased by 6% to 3,582 such incidents, compared to 3,370 in the same period last year. Of these attacks, 60 were fatal, compared to 54 in 2023.

According to retired NYPD detective Michael Alcazar, the increase in stabbings is caused by New York street gangs and rising youth crime.

“As the NYPD cracks down on gun ownership, perpetrators are going to carry knives instead,” he said.

According to David Sarni, a retired New York detective, more people are carrying bladed weapons to protect themselves. He hopes elected officials will see more done to protect the city.

“City officials don’t influence me,” he said. “They seem more concerned about the police than stopping violence in the neighborhoods.”
