Attacks against the hospital, the clarification of the department directors

“For some weeks we have been recording with concern the recurrence, on social networks and in local newspapers, of attacks against the Perugia Hospital and its top management”. The department directors wrote in a note. “We believe – they explain – that many of these attacks are wrong in their methods, unjustified in their facts and ungenerous in their content”.

Wrong in the methods: unsubstantiated and without contradictory accusations thrown like stones into the pond have no effect except to increase the bewilderment and anger of citizens towards the public structure. There are organized social channels where protests can be brought together, which can, much more easily, obtain feedback, responses and, if necessary, appropriate countermeasures.

Unjustified in fact: Most of the allegations refer to staff shortages. In reality, many hires have been made in recent months and weeks by this company management, albeit numerically insufficient to cope with a sudden wave of this size.

Ungenerous in the contents. The Perugia Hospital has always been the leading structure that is the first to be called upon to deal with emergency and particularly complex situations in our territory. This has happened, uninterruptedly, from the onset of this pandemic to the present day. In recent months, the spirit of self-denial, collaboration, solidarity of operators at all levels, certainly including management ones, have never failed. We have never seen shifts and workloads spontaneously lengthened or stoically accepted as in this period. All of us, from social health workers to primary care and company management, while operating in extremely difficult conditions on the professional and heavy on the human level, have put forth every energy to overcome this crisis together trying to maintain high standards of care and organization both on patients Covid and non-Covid ones (albeit for the latter with temporary and inevitable reductions) and we will certainly continue to do so.

“The hope – they conclude – is that this daily effort can be understood by the community and that each of us can continue to feel the precious support of the citizens in the common intention of getting out of this dramatic situation as soon as possible”.
