Attacking Ukrainian Aircraft, Iran Blames Missile and Radar Operators

TEHERAN – Civil Aviation Agency Iran , in its final report, blamed radar and missile defense system operators for the downing of the passenger plane Ukraine in January 2020. The tragedy killed all 176 people on board.

The agency’s final report was released Wednesday, it was quoted as saying Reuters, Thursday (18/3/2021). Radar was blamed for being deemed out of alignment.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the report, calling it a cynical attempt by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cover up the real reason for the alleged tragedy.

“The aircraft was identified as an enemy target by operator error [sistem] air defense … near Tehran and two missiles were fired at it, “the final report of the Iranian Civil Aviation Agency said on its website.

“Aviation operations had no role in creating faults in air defense batteries,” the report continued.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps shot down a Ukraine International Airlines flight on January 8, 2020 shortly after taking off from Tehran Airport.
