The attacking midfielder will evolve next season with the Rouge et Noir, for a transfer estimated at 15 million euros.
Nantes attacking midfielder Ludovic Blas has signed up for four years in Rennes, continuing his career in Brittany with European ambitions, the two clubs confirmed on Wednesday evening.
According to several media, the amount of the transfer is around 15 million euros for the 25-year-old player, who was under contract until 2024 with the Canaries.
In Rennes, he should complete an ambitious midfielder, with the announced arrival of Lorient’s Enzo Le Fée, and an already rich offensive palette.
Blas is the first Nantes player to sign for rival Rennes since the transfer 22 years ago of Olivier Monterbio, trained and launched in Nantes before becoming one of the club’s most decisive players (102 goals and assists), surpassed only by Benjamin Bourigeaud at the very end of the season.
Welcoming the professional experience of Blas and his “creative and technical profile”, the Rennes leaders said they were confident that the reception of Roazhon Park would be “at the height of his talent”.
After thanking the Rennes supporters on social networks, Blas explained in the Rennes press release that he was moving “to a higher level in a club that has a lot of ambition”.
Born in the Paris region, the midfielder arrived in Brittany 10 years ago to join the Guingamp training center and made his first appearances in L1 in the EAG jersey in December 2015.
After gradually winning at Guingamp (2016-2018), he won Nantes in 2019. Long irregular, struggling to get rid of a label of dilettante who chooses his matches, Blas has taken more thickness in recent seasons.
A formidable provider of balls, he also knows how to use his technical qualities to score, like this explosive counter in the Europa League in Turin or his blind volley against Lyon in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France. Last year, he scored the penalty for Nantes’ victory in the final and lifted the trophy.
“He is a player who is coming of age”, explained Florian Maurice, sports director of Rennes. Already courted last year, Blas had almost left for Lille but Nantes president Waldemar Kita had changed his mind at the last minute, and his performance at the start of the season had suffered a lot.
This season, he did not hide his desire to find the European scene and an ambitious team likely to allow him to win a selection for the France team, he who had won the Euro U19 in 2016 alongside Kylian Mbappé, Marcus Thuram or Theo Hernandez.
