Attack on Police Nearly Ends in Tragedy on NYC Subway – NBC New York

An off-duty New York police officer was pushed onto subway tracks in Manhattan in an apparently unprovoked attack before Monday afternoon rush hour, authorities and law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the case said Tuesday.

Police say the 40-year-old man was surprised by a stranger shoving him from behind while waiting on the northbound 2/3 platform at Tribeca’s Park Place Station shortly before 4 p.m.

The victim fell to the platform floor and managed to avoid falling forward into the path of an oncoming train as it entered the station. The suspect got on that train and allegedly yelled profanities at the victim as the subway exited.

Police released surveillance footage showing the suspect illegally jumping a turnstile just before the incident.

The officer had some minor leg injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-57-HINT.
