The United Kingdom wants to send 2 million pounds (2.4 million euros) in food aid to cities in Ukraine surrounded by the Russian army, the British government reports. About 25 truckloads of dried food, canned food and drinking water are to be transported to those areas from warehouses in Poland and Slovakia. Ukraine had asked for help.
Many cities are (partly) surrounded and bombed. Tens of thousands of residents have been detained for weeks in cities such as Kharkov, Izyum and Mariupol. The facilities have failed and there are shortages of food and clean drinking water.
The British government says it has made agreements with “partners at the borders” to ensure that food aid arrives as quickly as possible.
