Attack on Alternative for Germany (AfD) Co-Chairman Tino Krupalla: Unknown Liquid Injected, In Intensive Care

The attack on the co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany party, Tino Krupalla, was carried out with a syringe containing an unknown liquid. The politician continues to be in the intensive care unit, German media reported today, October 5, citing sources close to the leadership of the political force.

According to the AfD press secretary, two young men were involved in the attack, who injected the leader of the opposition party with an unknown liquid that caused anaphylactic shock. The suspects are currently detained and are being questioned by law enforcement officers.

The politician himself, who was taken to hospital immediately after the incident, is still in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Ingolstadt. At the same time, as the media note, Krupalla is conscious. Doctors found an injection mark on his skin; specialists are currently examining the blood for “the content of various toxic substances and other substances.”

Earlier, the AfD press secretary told the DPA agency that Krupalla’s colleague, co-chairman of the party Alice Weidel is currently under the protection of security authorities due to threats received by her and her family. For this reason, she was unable to participate in the pre-election event that took place the day before, and therefore Krupalla spoke in her place.

The attack on Krupalla was not the first act of violence against AfD politicians in recent months. In August, unknown assailants beat up an AfD deputy in the city of Augsburg. Andreas Jurka. According to the politician, the attackers asked him questions about his plans to participate in the upcoming elections to the Bavarian state parliament.

Let us recall that the AfD is the only political force represented in the Bundestag that advocates the normalization of bilateral relations and economic cooperation with Russia. According to the latest political poll conducted by the INZA Institute, more than 22% of German citizens are ready to support the party in the next federal elections. Thus, the AfD is ahead of the parties in the ruling coalition and is second only to the conservative bloc CDU/CSU, which is also in opposition.
