Police arrested a man on Sunday who attacked and seriously injured a German Jew near a synagogue in Hamburg. Judaism is now celebrating the Feast of Booths. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas condemned the anti-Semitic attack.
This is not an isolated incident, this is disgusting anti-Semitism, and we must all oppose it!
—Maas commented on Twitter.

According to German media, the attacker attacked the victim with a shovel on his way to the synagogue, causing serious head injuries. An injured 26-year-old man was given first aid on the spot and then taken to hospital. His wounds are serious, but not life-threatening – reports the AP agency.
The arrested 29-year-old man was accused of causing serious bodily harm, a spokesman for the police said. He added that the suspect was most likely acting alone, so there is no further threat and an investigation is underway to clarify the attacker’s motives.
The perpetrator of the attack was to be dressed in a military outfit resembling that of a neo-Nazi who, nearly a year ago, on Yom Kippur, killed two people in front of the synagogue in Halle. On October 9, 2019, 27-year-old Stephan Balliet tried to break into a synagogue in this city, and after an unsuccessful attempt to get inside, he opened fire on people on the street, killing two people, the Reuters agency reminds. The man admitted to the committed acts and confirmed that he was acting on anti-Semitic motives.
