(ANSA) – NAPLES, APRIL 22 – The Police arrested, on the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North, four men and a woman for the violent attack involving shots and baseball bats which took place yesterday in Afragola (Naples) in central Piazza di Castello, which led to the wounding of five people (none in danger of life), three of whom were hit by gunshots, one in the leg and the most serious in the abdomen, and two bruised from numerous blows. Wild West scenes occurred shortly after midday while the faithful were leaving the nearby Church of San Giorgio after Sunday mass in which some baptisms had been celebrated. Facing each other – it emerged from the investigations of the Afragola police station – are more than ten people belonging to two families divided by previous disagreements originating from neighborhood issues. According to the investigators, the arrested people attacked the members of the other family in the square, with their bare hands and with baseball bats (which were apparently provided by the arrested woman) until a gun emerged from which several shots were fired, who injured three people, two from the opposing family (still in hospital and one awaiting surgery to extract the nose of a bullet) and a relative of the attackers themselves, who wanted to calm things down and who was discharged yesterday evening. There were three municipal video surveillance cameras on site, which allowed police investigators, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North, to identify those responsible for the violent attack, the toll of which could have been dramatically more serious given the presence of so many people in the square. The charges against those arrested are triple attempted murder, injuries, possession and possession of a firearm and public intimidation with the use of weapons. They were taken to the Poggioreale prison in Naples. (HANDLE).
