Na de announcement from Gal Gadot (35) that she is once again joining forces with Wonder Womandirector Patty Jenkins For a project about Queen Cleopatra, TWITTER got into the pen en masse.
For the first time, the story will be told through the eyes of women, both in front and behind the scenes. However, the casting of the Israeli actress has been criticized before even one shot has been shot.
As you might have heard I teamed up with @PattyJenks and @LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera. pic.twitter.com/k5eyTIfzjB

Many think that Gadot has a too European appearance and that Cleopatra should be played by someone with an Egyptian / Arab appearance.
However, they receive ‘history lessons’ from people who simply point to [CORRECTIE] the fact that Cleopatra was of Macedonian / Greek descent and so there is nothing wrong with choosing Gadot. Some of the responses:
So…there were no Egyptian women to play, um, an *Egyptian* queen? https://t.co/RBFv55He8d

Gal Gadot, who is Israeli, was cast to play Cleopatra
Now we’re finding out how many people didn’t know that Cleopatra wasn’t actually of Egyptian descent https://t.co/leuKzE1F6y

A Middle Eastern woman playing another Middle Eastern woman is not whitewashing.
And Gal Gadot is Middle Eastern, ethnically and nationally. You can refuse to accept that all you want, but it won’t change the truth.

So, she didn’t know Cleopatra was Greek & she calls the stunning Gal Gadot “very bland looking”. Pathological hatred of Israel does strange things to people’s brains. https://t.co/dgOa9ILFFJ

Cleopatra was Macedonian Greek, not Arab, and Gal Gadot’s family has been in Israel for six generations. Take a deep breath, Sameera. https://t.co/xYEunlp5aK

I’m going to say this once and I’m not going to say it again, Cleopatra was Greek.
Yes, she was in Egyptian ruler but she was Greek with Persian and Syrian ancestry. The people who are reacting negatively that to this are uneducated and uninformed.
Gal Gadot deserves this role. pic.twitter.com/7h1oYu9ClX

Someone explain to me how Gal Gadot can be stealing an “Arab role” when Cleopatra was Macedonian ????
Funny that she wasn’t Arab or Israeli but people are only pressed that a Jewish actress is going to be playing her.
Either you’re antisemitic or just were dead in history class.
